In December 2021 I wrote about what seemed like a too good to be true guaranteed 7% rate of return being offered by Series I US Savings Bonds. Next month it may get even better. With inflation running at 40 year highs, I Bonds are set to yield almost 10%. Guaranteed. There is always a catch. You can’t buy as much as you want, there is a $10,000 limit per person per calendar year, there is a 1 year lock up where you can’t get your money back at all, and you give up some interest if you redeem within the first 5 years.
